Candlemas Celebration Photos from Feb 2
2014-02-27
Despite the copious snowfall, a celebration of Candlemas ocurred at the Elora Centre for the Arts.
A sculpture of old candles was made, blowing what we wanted to let go of from 2013 into them, then arranging them in clay pots filled with sand. Finally we lit them.
Moving from there to pots filled with soil, we planted what we wanted to call in for 2014 for ourselves and then for the community. You can see the cauldron, tongs for the fire, offering of bread, salt, and the straw representation of Bride, Birgit, Brigantia, the Corn Dolly, that holds the energy of the Goddess Bride, She who concerns herself with poetry, smithcraft and midwifery.
We then went on to make small brooms to whisk any heavy energy out of our homes. Outside in the snow, a candle fire was made, using pine cones on a metal base, and then the candles. As you can see, quite a blaze. The melting wax even burned down into the ice, illuminating the world below!
