What an Amazing New Moon and Winter Solstice Fire!
2015-01-08
The New Moon rose beautifully in the early hours of the morning of the Winter Solstice, 2014.
We prepared firewood in a pine box, and lit a pathway of candles. A meditation for finding the darkness stillness within happened next. Praise then the Darkness and Creation unfinished!
We walked to the firepit, opened Sacred Space and then lit the Solstice Fire.
What a yearning that pine box had to become sacred light! Messages to spirit were whirled up in the heat and sparks of it. The red Fire Mask, stuffed with prayers, was offered to the flames. Amazing creatures of fire, phoenixes, birds, spirals of flame were visible.
In the end, the bonfire burned down so that it looked like, well, some bones. Which is of course, the Medieval origin of the term bonfire. We all jumped over fire or candles, leaving behind the old year and jumping into the new. Praise then the return of the Light!
