October 25th, 2015: Day of the Dead and the Closing of the Fulacht Fia
2016-01-12
The next day, the embers of the fire are rekindled, and we recite poetry and give a final toast to the Ancestors. We check the food offerings that were left for the Ancestors, and then, we begin to fill in the pit with the small mountain of earth. As no water is used, this is an acceptable way to end a sacred fire.
The smoke escapes through the earth as we place it into the pit, and then we dance on the earth to pack it in place. Finally the grass is placed on top, and no trace remains. The Ancestors are happy to have been remembered.
