What is a Despatcho?

Despatchos, or prayer bundles, provide a space to focus your intention for manifesting or releasing things. This is followed by a process of honouring and gratitude, which then shifts the energy in your life and brings in the opportunities behind the original intention. Making prayer bundles in this way is a tradition from the Andes region in South America. Despatchos have been called making a prayer visible.

A Despatcho involves flowers, seeds, feathers, leaves, candies and chocolate which are placed in layers onto a sheet of paper that becomes the envelope for your prayer or intention. It’s a powerful, beautiful, playful and dynamic process. Making prayer bundles in this way is a tradition from the Andes region in South America.

Why make a Despatcho

Despatchos can be done for individuals, groups, and places. They are a wonderful group activity, and create a sense of community. We have done Despatchos for families, businesses, new houses, relationships, births, deaths, and to honour Mother Earth.

As in many traditions, after making the Despatcho it is then burned. This is an important part of the ceremony, as fire is used to release these prayers to spirit. The power of directed thought and creativity is very effective in manifesting your thoughts into reality!

Types of Despatchos

The power of directed thought and creativity is very effective in manifesting your thoughts into reality! There are several kinds of Despatchos, depending on the intention:

  • An Ayni Despatcho brings your life into balance. This is the most common kind of Despatcho. It is a beautiful mandala that you create to celebrate beginnings: a change in your life, a new house, business, marriage or relationship, or a birth.
  • A Chaska (Star) Despatcho is a specific kind of Ayni Despatcho. This manifests a rebalancing of the world, from the local to the global, after a natural or human-made disaster.
  • An Aya Despatcho is done in times of transition or endings. It can be made when you are ending a relationship, a job, when you feel you are leaving behind an old life, and stepping into a new way of being. This may occur after experiencing a serious illness. An Aya Despatcho is also a beautiful ceremony to have after the death of a loved one. This Despatcho involves seven separate layers, each representing a different aspect of life. A new paper is placed over each layer, creating a sense of non-attachment to what came before, and allowing you to be present to the next layer.
